We are glad to inform you of the third series of Special Lectures in the current academic session 2018­-19.

Professor Ramasubramanian, from IIT Mumbai, will deliver a series of lectures on “An Introduction to Piṅgalācārya’s Chandaḥsūtra” on 28th and 29th of September 2018. Prof. Ramasubramanian holds a doctorate in Theoretical Physics from University of Madras. He has also obtained a Bachelors degree in Engineering (AMIE) from Institution of Engineers, Kolkata, and a Masters in Sanskrit from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati.

Piṅgalācārya’s Chandaḥsūtra’ forms the foundation of Indian prosody, Chandaḥśāstra which is considered as one of the six auxiliaries to Vedas (vedāṅga). Vṛttaratnākara and other later works have their roots in the original Chandaḥsūtra’ composed by the sage Piṅgalācārya.

Lectures will be scheduled as shown below:

  • 28 Sept 2018 – 11am – 1 pm: An Introduction to Piṅgalācārya’s Chandaḥsūtra
  • 28 Sept 2018 – 7 pm ­ 9 pm: An Introduction to Piṅgalācārya’s Chandaḥsūtra (contd.)
  • 29 Sept 2018 – 7.30 am – 9.30 am: An Introduction to Piṅgalācārya’s Chandaḥsūtra (contd.)
