Admission to the PhD in Sanskrit Programme for the academic year 2025-26

The Department of Sanskrit and Philosophy invites applications from eligible candidates for admission to the Ph.D. programme in Sanskrit in the academic session 2025–2026.

Number of available seats for Ph.D.: 8 (eight only)

Areas of Specialisation:

  1. Veda,
  2. Vyākaraṇa
  3. Vedānta (Advaita)
  4. Sāṅkhya
  5. Yoga
  6. Nyāya

Essential Qualifications:

  • M.A. (or equivalent) in Sanskrit with a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent grade) from a recognized University.
  • Ability to speak and write fluently and flawlessly in Sanskrit. This is most essential.
  • Should have cleared the UGC-NET examination with certificate for eligibility to pursue Ph.D.

Preferable Qualification:

Candidates with a research fellowship awarded by UGC/ICPR/any recognized funding agency will get preference in admission.

How to Apply

  • New applicants have to first register (https://zfrmz.in/xGuqAQvknvA18zKiTh98) , then login to the Online Admission Portal and fill up the online application form.
  • After successfully submitting the application form, pay the application fee (INR 500.00) online from the same Portal. Link can be found under ‘Options’ next to the program name on the Dashboard.
  • While filling up the online application-form attach the scanned copies of your passport size photo, mark-sheets and other applicable certificates/documents.
  • Once Application-form is successfully submitted and application-fee is paid, Receipt (also Application-summary) will be available for download from the same Portal from the ‘Dashboard‘.

Last date to receive applications: 21 August 2025 (Thursday)

Selection Procedure:

Written test + viva-voce (oral) exam, to be conducted during the last week of August 2025. The exact dates will be notified to the eligible applicants later.
