The inaugural session of the “West Bengal State Level Competition for the selection of the candidates to attend the 62 nd All India Shastrartha Spardha” was held on 28 November 2024 (Thursday), 11.00 am. The session started with chanting of Vedic Śāntimantras. Compere Dr. Rakesh Das (head of the department of Sanskrit and Philosophy, RKMVERI and co-ordinator of the competitions) welcomed the guests and competitors. The chief speaker, Swami Japasiddhananda (Co-ordinator of the department of Sanskrit and Philosophy, RKMVERI) spoke a few words on the importance of studying Sanskrit and the hosting institution. Chief guest Dr. Dayananda Panigrahi (Assistant Professor, Department of Advaita Vedanta, Kaliachak Bikram Kishore Adarsha Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya) spoke on the importance of such events and shared his own experiences as competitor in his younger days. The program ended with a breifing of the events, venue, program etc.
The valecictory session of the competition was held on 29 November, 2024, 2 pm. Revered Swami Atmapriyananda (Pro-Chancellor of the hosting institution), Revered Swami Sarvottamananda (Vice-Chancellor of the hosting institution) were present as guests. The program started with Vedic chanting. In his benedictory address the chief guest Swami Atmapriyananda Ji said that everyone should participate in such events. Quoting a proverb “the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those who sang best”, he emphasized on exhibiting one’s own talents in one’s own way. While expressing his gratitude to all who have attended the events, the chief speaker, Swami Sarvottamananda Ji has also shown his mild dejection on the number of competitors. In his speech as the special guest Dr. Dayananda Panigrahi expressed his euphoria. He appreciated the management of the competition, the friendly and calm ambience of the institution, the overall performance of the competitors. Dr. Gopikrishnan Reghu, assistant co-ordinator of the entire program presented a report of the competiotions and announced the names of the winners. Following the prize distribution ceremony the Pro-chancellor of the hosting institution and the chairman of the valedictory function felicitated the judges. Dr. Rakesh Das, the co-ordinator of the entire program, delivered the vote of thanks and ended the function with Pūrṇatāmantra.
